Self-sufficient
I was so motivated by yesterday that I was outside at 8am (in the rain!) pulling weeds and tending to my fruit/vegetable garden. I picked (is that the right word...as it was more of a cut) my first home-grown kohlrabi....little green sputnik! Looks like another one will be ready in a week or so. Cauliflower looking very sad. I think the weather has messed it up. Corn, melon, tomatoes and cucumbers are taking over and the raspberry bushes seem to be growing nicely - definitely faster than the strawberry plants. Also testing out asparagus and some other stuff. I am using this as my test year to see what grows well. After all, the seeds/plants only cost a few $ in total so if something doesn't succeed it's not the end of the world.
While it rains I shall decide if I'm going to eat my kohlrabi raw or cook it or make it into something. It's currently occupying pride of place in my kitchen.
Yes, I know this is sad but I still get every excited at the prospect of eating home-grown, pesticide-free food.
:-)
