Alphie

Did you TLAP?

Not as much fun as last year cos my chief pirate is not in the mood to play this year and Matey is sailing the High Seas somewhere. I am laid up with a case of scurvy so not really up to swashing any buckles.

There's always next time!

My sister is not doing well. Had her op and they went for the results today. Apparently it's spread and she has to go back in for an another op next week. Not being too pessimistic about this but it'll be a year since my dad went into hospital and that didn't end too well. The only reason I remember the date is cos it was the week of my birthday...which is next week (in case you didnt put it all together).

:-(

Taking me and my virus off to the sofa now. Exhausted.

Alphie

Yeah, not too good quality but haven't had the time to sit there and take a really fab picture cos he moves too much!

Another reason for calling him Alphie...an Alpha male, of course! :-) Got him to flare up last night. Scary. He looked huge and it took a while for him to calm down. Not sure I'm doing that again.

Also, seems to be changing colour....hopefully that's a good sign. His fins now have a lot more red than when I got him, which is fine. So he's now got violet and blue tinges on the fins with red being the predominant colour. The photos don't do him justice as he really is gorgeous.

A Betta Home

Pun totally intended.

Spotted the aquarium I wanted online but thought I'd go and take a look in a couple of local stores. I'm planning on creating a nice peaceful aquarium unlike someone at work who is currently building a totally aggressive one! But today's mission was purely to check out the prices and nothing else...until I got to the store and saw loads of male bettas looking very sad in teeny weeny containers. I had to rescue one (only one per tank else they'll fight although I would have taken more.....being Siamese Fighting Fish...which is what I always used to know them as....but that's another story)....so I did. Beautiful blue with red streaks. Seems pretty chirpy and did even eat something earlier although it took him a little while to swim up there and start munching.

So, might have to put the bigger tank off for a little while so I can devote myself to Alpha (that's what I'm calling him cos (1) he's a Betta and (2) he's the first).

I was bored....

Did it!

Think I did all I set out to do:

Friday: flew, hired car, got to hotel. Went to see Esther's Follies, laughed myself silly (boy, did I need that!). Wandered round 6th Street, Congress and back to Hotel. Very pretty all lit up at night. Lots of bars, most of them not too busy.

Saturday: Down to San Antonio to see The Alamo. Then walked the Riverwalk where there was an arts/crafts fair. Then to Market Square/El Mercado for some hispanic shopping and music. Bought a couple of little ceramic things. Drove back via Lockhart and stopped off for fab BBQ. Got back to hotel exhausted but wandered down to the S Congress bridge for BatFest (live music, food, stalls).

Sunday: Brunch at Las Manitas where I lost an earring and some couple decided to tell me their life story. All the way up to the Capitol. Wandered round inside and then did the grounds. Stopped off for an iced tea. Wandered down to the Austin Museum of Art - which was decidedly small and not very impressive. Then went over to Zilker Park for a wander around there and a trip to the Umlauf Sculpture Park. Back to hotel for pedicure and massage cos my feet were pooped by then and my neck has been killing me.

Monday: BBQ at Rudys. Drove round the Hill Country and stopped off by the river for a bit of sunshine. Shopped on South Congress...bought some more little souvenirs. Went to Amy's for icecream.

Tuesday (today): Dropped the car off, hopped on a plane or two, came home and went to Wegmans.

My aim in life: work less, travel more. Had a fab few days but I know I'm already stressed by the thought of work in the morning. :-(
